My accountant made me sign up to this software and already it’s saved me over £1000. I’m not to great on computers and when it comes calculating tax, CIS, and VAT returns it’s a complete drain on my time and resources. I have admittedly spent a few hours setting this all up but no more time than doing the VAT return, but now I can honestly say I’m flying with it. My accountant is impressed and XERO has on its stats in the dashboard says I’m up 137% on last month plus XERO had noticed that a customer who I thought had paid in full hadn’t paid an invoice I thought I had handed over but failed to give them!!!Now I can email invoices straight from the software with a notification when the customer reads the invoice!So all in all fantastic bit if kit but my only negative comment is the fact the bank stream needs to be updated by the accountant?

Hello, we're loving your feedback, and so happy that Xero is making a positive impact to your business, and giving you back some of your valuable time!With regards to the bank feeds, depending on your bank, these can be set-up to be automatic, but unfortunately some banks don't currently offer this to Xero users. Check out the list of banks on Xero Central (search Bank Feeds) or ask your accountant.
Strange anomalies

It’s a handy app to have alongside the web version, especially in terms of adding photos of receipts and bills. However, I’m flummoxed by the fact that the app on my iPad differs from the app on my iPhone, as well as other people’s apps on their devices. We are all signed into the same company yet my default “today’s date” when inputting a bill on my iPad is June 2020. Given that it is now November 2021 it’s extremely laborious having to scroll all the way to the correct date. Similarly, on one person’s app they are able to paid a bill at the same point as adding a bill as there is a drop down menu below the “categorise to an amount” drop down. I can’t on either my phone or pad, the drop down option simply isn’t there so I then have to go through the whole rigmarole of finding the bill and marking it as paid….Would at least be helpful if there could be a help facility for the app within the main Xero website but if you search for support there hardly anything shows up regarding the app. So disappointed as it could be such a great business tool but it’s actually creating more work, rather than simplifying/saving time.
Why did I wait so long to switch?
The Darktux
Simply brilliant software, following a logical business person's workflow, rather than the accountants workflow of Sage, this saves me so much time & allows digital document storage quickly and easy, for free all built in on day 1. Bank feeds work well, vat returns are a breeze, of course there are tweaks I would like, but Xero is so far ahead of Sage at this point, for me there’s no competition. Spend a day setting up the system, your contacts (customers and suppliers) and opening balances & you will be on your way. One tip, invest the time in setting up the defaults for each contact initially, things like vat number, payment x days after invoice, usual nominal etc & your future data entry time is slashed as Xero pre fills these fields for each new bill or invoice.

I had friends telling me it would change my life if I converted to xero (from spreadsheet bookkeeping). It has. Took a while to set up with the help of my accountant but now I’m familiar with it, all my previous accounts are uploaded and it feels very organised. I was definitely overwhelmed managing a growing business with paper invoicing. This system is great and I can keep on top of my accounts every day with ease. Filing the VAT return was one click! Usually it would take me a day to collate and I was always meticulous about figures but it was nerve raking getting it right. I really recommend getting someone experienced with it to help with the setup, but after that you have a live snapshot of your business at any time. Highly recommended.
