I’m only in Bristol for the weekend, the chances I’ll be coming back at all in the next decade is slim to none, this morning (a Sunday) I needed to travel a 2 mile round trip so the free hour enticed me to try a Yobike, got to where I needed and locked the bike as the app stated while I went in Tesco for 2 mins as the app stated it would be a pitstop and wouldn't incur an extra charge. However the app would not let me unlock the bike to return to my hotel without me topping up a £5 which I had to do to return. Paid for my 5 credits, unlocked the bike and returned. Didn’t actually use a credit so now I’m stuck having paid for a service I’ll never use again. Though I did thoroughly enjoy the brief ride so 4 STARS from me.
The app however would not let me tap any of the buttons on the parking warnings and other pop up info so I had to restart the app on the 3 occasions it did pop up and also the gps was out by around 100ft in places making it difficult to get the app to register that you were actually at a designated parking spot. Thankfully the stop at my hotel was in the open and registered fine.
I really want to love it
I’ve been subscribed to YoBike for just over a year. It’s a great idea, it’s way cheaper than owning a bike and if the app worked it would be way better too. But too often bikes don’t open or they don’t lock, you have to walk 10 or 15 minutes to find a bike or the bikes are not working.
Recently I opened a bike with a broken lock. I only realised afterward that the bike was not rideable. When I tried to lock the bike it wouldn’t because it was damaged. I reported and asked for them to end the journey because I wanted to get another bike (one hat worked). I got no response. I kept contacting them every few days for 17 days before I was finally able to use another bike! It came with a week apology and nothing more.
It’s a great idea but terrible customer service and poor technology.
I would definitely use a different provider if there was another one to try. I very much hope it improves!
Great concept, buggy App, poor customer service.
I really like the convenience of this service. Always have been able to find a bike in town. However I have to contact support almost 80% of the time because if issues like the bike not unlocking but showing as journey started on the App, or the App hanging so that I cannot ‘End Journey’ forcing me to reload the App and then not being able to properly end the journey leaving me wondering if I’m still being charged or going to incur a penalty. Managed to get the appropriate refunds but not without a lack of clarity when support replies to me - wont confirm I am not still being charged despite repeated requests. I now expect that I will have some sort of technical hassle when I rent a bike. Hopefully they might sort it out or a better offering comes along.
