ZIPZERO’s mission is to help consumers monetise the enormous value in our shopping data. Every day, global giants like Google and Facebook track our transactional behaviour and earn cash by allowing retailers to target us online. Meanwhile, none of this wealth is shared with the owners of that data – the consumer.
We started ZIPZERO in the belief that consumers have a right to some of the money that is earned on the back of our shopping data. We created a smart tool – the ZIPZERO app – to give everyone the ability to gain access to these funds. Furthermore, we wanted to put this money directly towards an essential cause – monthly bill payment.
By sharing your shopping receipts with ZIPZERO, you also allow us to gain insights into your needs and preferences. Next, on the basis of the data you share, we can tailor special offers that are personalized so that you can easily find the products you want.
Every time you shop with one of our retail partners and earn a premium reward, ZIPZERO earns a commission from processing the sale. We use the majority of this commission to cover the rewards you earn from sharing your data within the app. This is how we close the loop on a fair consumer exchange.
Our latest update is focused on including some major app improvements to make the user experience more streamlined and user-friendly:
- The main app screen has been updated with a new look and layout. The new main screen features your ZIPZERO wallet with a simplified and easy-to-read summary of all your collected Units, as well as their status of Pending or Available.
- Base Units and Premium Units are now displayed separately in the app to make it easier for Users to keep track of their earned units and their availability status.
- We have introduced a new “Transactions” screen that allows users to access all their purchases and earned reward units. This screen also displays the Base and Premium Units individually.
- We have also included several minor enhancements and features for a more streamlined user experience and user-helpdesk communication.

When the app first come out I was happy for it as I would literally earn money for just snapping receipts and the Money would go towards my bills which I thought was fabulous , however from all the money I have saved I have only been able to use a small amount of that money towards my bill which I find disappointing as In order for me to now release the remaining money I need to purchase the amount I’ve accumulated from purchasing stuff online , which is hard for me as I don’t always purchase things online. I would love for them to find another solution for us to release the money we have already accumulated without having to make further purchases or do more incentives for us to help release the money. I am however grateful for any help that I have received so far towards paying towards a bill.
There are MUCH better apps out there!
There are MUCH better apps out there which don’t require you to wait a lifetime to build up your money and are far less restrictive with their rules. From my understanding you can scan receipts to gain ‘Base Reward’ units but they will only become available if you use their app to shop online which gives you ‘Premium Reward’ units at 0.5 % of your purchase price as a base reward and whatever % on top according to the retailer. You have to wait for your item(s) to be delivered and the return period to be over in order for your ‘Premium Points’ to become available. The points work on a £1 to £1 basis meaning what you build up in ‘Premium Reward’ units also becomes available in ‘Base Reward’ units so for example if you gain £2 in ‘PR’, £2 will then become available for ‘BR’.
I currently have £5 in ‘BR’ from scanning receipts before the update but they now saying pending and will not become available until I use their app to shop online at selected retails as explained above! It’s ridiculous!
If you want something a lot more straight forward which actually lets you cash out, I would suggest ‘Shoppix’, ‘ Storewards’ or/and ‘HuYu’ these apps are MUCH better in my opinion. Looks like I will have got forfeit the £5 I accumulated because this app is a waste of time unless you do a lot of shopping both online and offline. I could be wrong about the rules so double check for yourself but in my opinion this app is a waste of time.

Hi there! You are right about the complexity of the app - however, it is intentional as we are focused on giving more and more people access to the rewards that can be drawn from retailers’ marketing budgets. The existing rewards app out there are concentrated on gathering user data with a minimal reward and no other benefit. ZIPZERO uses the information we get from shopping data to personalise offers and get better offers and higher rewards for each user individually. This will eventually lead to users getting more of what they want and higher rewards on top. It may be complex, but the long-term goal is to have more attractive offers coupled with much higher rewards (with both base and premium rewards paid) - that, most importantly, are directed towards a crucial goal: monthly bill payment.

Seemed like a good idea. You can scan pretty much any UK till receipt, and you currently get 0.5% (usually 1% but temporarily reduced because of the economic situation) in your wallet. You can then use this to put towards a utility bill. Might as well scan receipts, as it only takes a second. You have to earn a minimum of £10 to be able to redeem. Usually the receipt takes 7 days for its points to be available, and as I had 3 weeks or so of receipts still pending I contacted them, and was advised that due to the impact of COVID-19 that receipts are now approved after 90 days, and they currently do not have funds to pay out. They should update the details here on the App Store so people are aware, as it clearly says that there is only a wait of 7 days. It’s up to you whether to bother, as they may not be able to secure funds. Receipts have to be scanned within 7 days of issue, so there is no point in saving them in case things improve.
Since they “Relaunched” the app, any cash you had accumulated is carried forward, BUT to access the cash you have to earn the equivalent amount through online shopping through the app with their partners. You get 0.5% cash back. Pretty useless. It’s a good way of getting out of paying out.

Hi there again, As you know our journey during and post-pandemic was not the easiest. Because we were not able to secure a lead investor last year, we were faced with a tough choice: close the app or find an alternative solution so that we could cover rewards from receipt scanning. We wanted to find a way that would keep us from being dependent on an outside investor or fund – and that’s what we’ve done in the new version of the app – thanks to online shopping. While we had to bring our users’ balances back to pending, the good news is that our new online premium shopping function lets users earn more rewards for their purchases + it also helps cover the rewards earned from non-premium shopping. The premium offers allow for much higher % than 0.5% (up to 10%) - we work also on implementing premium offers for in-store shopping. All the rewards you accumulated in the past will remain in your account in the new version of the app. These funds are now called base reward units. The only difference is that the status of these historic rewards did go back to ‘Pending’. Your base reward units will become ‘Available’ on a pound-by-pound basis according to the amount of premium reward units you have earned. For example, as soon as you have £1 in premium reward units available, another £1 in base reward units also becomes available – giving you a total of £2 for bill payment.
