As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I’ve experienced numerous homophobic incidents - ranging from being called homophobic slurs, being physically assaulted, and having glass bottles chucked at my head. For me, the worst part of all those situations was not the actual physical injuries, but it was the feeling of being absolutely alone and powerless in those situations. It was seeing the bystanders not making eye contact with me and pretending to not have seen what had just happened. That feeling of that powerlessness and being so alone prevented me from wanting to draw attention to those situations, let alone go to the police station to report it. An app is not going to change the world and instantly cure homophobia, but knowing Zoteria can help me and others find emotional and mental health support after experiencing something traumatic, that it can make it less overwhelming to be able to file a police report, that by using it can support more accurate on homo/bi/trans -phobia in the UK, and that it can help survivors of hate crimes feel just that bit less lonely and just that more empowered is nothing less than amazing.

Happy to have this app and the help of the involved charities who will take this seriously and offer real support and information to victims who have not found it elsewhere, as sometimes the institutions meant to help us fail to do so. Also enjoying the calendar of social events and information for the community!

It’s more than a tool to report hate crime; it’s a directory for support and advocacy groups. I appreciate the ‘discreet’ mode even though I’d no longer utilise it myself. The upcoming LGBT+ events page is great, although it is heavily geared towards club nights.
