Like coming home to find your bathtub full of gummy worms, the best games can surprise, delight and confuse you all at the same time. Here are the most weird and wonderful titles our editors have tried out this week.
Hot Wheels Infinite Loop
Anyone who’s ever played with Hot Wheels as a kid (or a grown-up!) will have at some point imagined what it would be like to actually drive around those mad plastic tracks, smashing other cars out of the way as you head into a huge loop-de-loop. That’s exactly what this game offers. With eight-player online carnage, tournaments to dominate and a huge garage to collect, it’s a toy-racer’s dream come true.

Real-time PvP Racing!
Sam Barlow’s first game, Her Story, was an award-winning sensation telling a twisting story entirely through video clips of a police interview. This follow-up quadruples the live-action drama, as you poke around NSA archive footage of four people who are each tied to a shocking event. As you sift through the clips, it’s up to you to decide who to believe in this intimate thriller.
4 private lives. 1 big lie.
Marcus Fenix and his crew of rough, tough soldiers, reimagined as Funko Pop! figures, in their own new mobile game? It’s bonkers, but it works! Whether or not you’re a Gears of War fan, there’s plenty to love here with quickfire strategic battles, cute collectible squadmates and more colourful explosions than you can wave a Lancer Assault Rifle at.
Now for something completely different. Exploring the world of GRIS is a serene and almost meditative experience, as you jump and puzzle your way through some astonishingly beautiful scenery. There’s no danger or hazards to speak of, so you’re free to uncover its moving storyline at your own pace.
When you’re running a farm, logistics is everything: it’s all about getting the right produce to the right people at the right time. And if your farm is for some reason on top of a mountain? Well, then the most efficient way to deliver your goods is to shoot them out of a whopping great cannon and then steer them down the hill, avoiding high-speed hazards as you go. That’s just common sense.
