Head down, deeper and down to explore a near-bottomless tomb in this devilishly compelling arcade game.
Tombshaft is all about controlled falling. Using wonderfully chunky left and right buttons you’ll guide your adventurer’s descent, making sure you don’t drop off the bottom of the screen.
Each playable character offers a different way to arrest your downward momentum. As the default Spelunker, you can press against walls for a slower slide. Choose the magical Mystic and you can tap a button to hover and hold it to glide.
On your way down, you’ll need to dodge falling stalactites and flame-spitting statues. You can choose to weave your way between giant bees, spiders, bats and grubs or bounce off them, if you’re feeling brave.
You can’t hang about – the top of the screen is catching up with you all the time and is every bit as deadly as the bottom.
Sometimes your path will be blocked by cracked platforms – land on or push against them so they crumble away and you can plummet further. Soon you’ll find yourself in the realms of the occult, with pits patrolled by ghosts and demons.
Survive until you reach the bottom and you’ll collect an artifact and move onto the next tomb, of which there are 16 – with a surprise lying in wait within the final one.
With a special reward for collecting the full set of artifacts, there’s always a reason to dive in for another treacherous tumble in Tombshaft.
