Ashworld

an apocalyptic survival world

Hey, here’s a bunch of jargon: Ashworld is a postapocalyptic sandbox survival roguelike game set in a procedurally generated wasteland.

If you know what that means, you can stop reading. This is a really good one of those, go play it, trust us.

If, however, you are not submerged in gamer culture and those words make absolutely no sense to you: don’t worry, we’re here to help. And yes, even then this game is still very much worth playing.

There’s a story-driven quest, but you’re free to just wander around and ignore it completely.

This is what’s up: Ashworld is set 400 years in the future. Civilization as we know it has been decimated and all that matters now is survival. At the end of the day, it’s you versus the world and you stand a better chance if you have a fully loaded shotgun by your side.

So you roam the world in search of the bare essentials: food, water, fuel and other precious resources. Because you’re not the only human left alive, often times you’ll have to fight to the death to secure them.

Stick to missions or roam free, the choice is yours.

Now, here’s the thing: you will die. A lot. Ashworld is a tough game, but don’t worry. Every time you start again, the game world is completely new. All the important places are in different spots, so every time you play it feels like a completely different version of the game.

The best part about all this is that this game is ideal to dip in to for short play sessions. You don’t even have to follow the story, just tooling around in the wasteland itself is fun.

Or, as developer Pascal Bestebroer puts it: “There’s a story-driven quest, but you’re free to just wander around and ignore it completely if you’d rather start some campfires in the desert to roast mutated spiders.”
