This new app is guaranteed to make you feel a little uneasy. Not so much a game as a platform, Unrd gives you access to interactive stories in which you witness the drama as it unfolds in real time. That means spending time receiving and reading someone else’s text messages.
Unrd is the natural progression from this developer’s debut game Last Seen Online. In that original, award winning immersive story you spend seven days reading group chat messages that tell the story of a girl who has gone missing.
On the Unrd platform, Last Seen Online is available alongside four additional stories spanning the genres of crime, thriller and horror. Each of the stories lasts a set number of days and as soon as you start one story, the notifications start pinging on your phone.
In “My Last 3 Days” for example, you are observing from the point of view of Josie – a girl whose singing career suddenly starts to take off. She appears to have accidentally given away some secure information about herself and now has a stalker hassling her on her phone.
You read the messages and watch the Instagram-style stories from her friends and try to anticipate what tragedy might be about to befall her. Yet you are just a passive observer and unable to affect change on the story. Can you bear the suspense?
