Alphaputt

Crazy alphabet golf

View

Okay, so we’ve all fired a ball between the spinning blades of a windmill, but have you ever sunk a birdie on a race track as cars whizz by, or launched your ball through flaming rings of fire?

Alphaputt is crazy golf played on a beautifully realised A-Z, where you’re sinking a putt on the curled end of a J, or pinging a shot around the curve of a C. Just drag back with your finger and let go to take your shot.

Every course is genuinely lovely to look at, and is themed around a particular word. So on J you’ll Jump, on A you’ll negotiate an Airport and on Z you’ll play through a Zen garden.

Here’s a cool thing: to celebrate London Games Festival 2019, the Alphaputt team added in a new themed L, G and F courses.

X, V, K and B are particularly mischievous, but we won’t tell you why – half the fun of Alphaputt is in discovering how developer Sennep has themed each letter, and the little touches that make these dioramas feel so alive.

There are a couple of different ways to play, too – delve into ‘Wordplay’ mode and you can play across a random word picked from a grid, or one you can type out yourself. ‘Par-fection’, meanwhile, asks you to play through the whole alphabet in as few shots as possible. Up to four people can play, too, passing the iPhone or iPad between them to take turns.

It’s a lovingly made game from beginning to end, and one with the high-end production values you’d expect from the maker of App Store classic OLO Game. So, if you’re seeking a uniquely beautiful and inventive game of crazy golf, the answer’s as easy as ABC.
