Royal Revolt 2: Tower Defense

MMO RPG & Castle Defense Game

View

This tower-assault favourite has been going strong for over five years now, and it’s not hard to see why it’s still bringing in new players. It’s aged like a fine wine, and it slips down every bit as easily.

Royal Revolt 2 is a game of two equally absorbing halves. You’ll take part in real-time raids on rival kingdoms to steal their gold. Then you’ll put those spoils towards building up your city and its defences, to bolster your army and protect yourself against attacks from other players.

Beat a path to the castle and smash it all up by using timed attacks.

When it’s time to launch an offensive, you’ll lead your troops into battle as a sword-wielding hero. You’re limited to knights and archers at first, but later you’ll unlock brutish ogres, powerful pyromancers and mortars for devastating ranged attacks.

The deadlier they are, however, the more energy they’ll cost, so it pays to balance hard hitters with a steady stream of relative lightweights. There’s strength in numbers, after all.

Under fire from enemy towers? Use spells to take them down quickly. Or if bombs are raining down, get your hero to kick them back. And be sure to blow your battle horn to call all troops to your position in case any are lagging behind – or foolishly forging ahead.

Weigh up your tactical options carefully and you’ll be king of the castle in no time.

Defending, meanwhile, is handled automatically. But the preparation is all down to you. Build a long, winding path to your castle, and put as many obstacles in your opponent’s path and you might just keep their hands off your gold.

Position your towers right and they’ll be sitting ducks while they try to break down your barricades. If and when they do, you can unleash beasts to defend the castle gate – from a fierce panda to a long-eared bunny that’s more vicious than it looks.

You can even join an online alliance, with a hex-based Conquest mode letting you and your allies expand your territory to grab more resources. And those same friends can lend a hand to solo sorties, providing ‘insta-troops’ for a cavalry charge that can turn the tide of battle.

Despite the name, this compulsive strategy game is far from revolting. In fact, whether you’re on the attack or fortifying your defences, you’ll be royally entertained.
