The journey of a thousand emails begins with a single app, and Airmail 3 can help you prepare for departure. The email app is designed to quickly act on and clear email, but its unique features can take a while to master. Here are some tips on how to get started.

Customise your sidebar

Airmail provides a curated list of folders to help you manage your email in the leftmost pane. The folders on top feature commonly used folders, like Inbox and Bin. The Advanced Folders list at the bottom are rule-based folders – the To Read folder, for example, lists all of your unread emails only.

We’ll cover Airmail’s unique folders, like To Do and Snooze, in another article. For now, you might be missing familiar folders like Archive or All Mail in the top folders. To customise your folders list, click Airmail 3 > Preferences > Favourites and select the folders you’d like to see. Another way to show or hide specific folders is to click the More icon and choose the folders in the menu.

Click the More icon to select folders you want to have in the sidebar.

Send attachments swiftly

Airmail Share can easily attach files as email attachments. To enable the feature, click the Apple () menu on your home screen and select System Preferences. Click Extensions, then Share Menu and select the Airmail Share checkbox.

Now when you open a file in Preview, you can email it as an attachment by clicking Share and choosing Airmail Share. Airmail Share also works for emailing URLs from Safari.

Enable Airmail Share and you can email files as attachments from Preview.

Manage multiple signatures

To set a signature, click Airmail 3 > Preferences > Accounts. Select an account by clicking its Gear icon (or double-click the account), then choose Signature. Type in the text field to create a Default signature or click Add (+) to make a new one.

You can create more than one signature and toggle between them when composing a message.

When composing an email, you can toggle between signatures by clicking the Signature icon (the smiling mask) on the top-right corner of the New Message window, then choosing one from the menu.

If you don’t want a signature to be added automatically to every email, go to Accounts again and select Composer, then deselect the Signature in Reply checkbox.

Sync preferences with iCloud

Airmail can sync with its iOS app through iCloud, making it easy to import email accounts and preferences. To enable iCloud Sync, choose Airmail 3 > Preferences > General.

Select the iCloud Sync checkbox to sync email account settings and select the iCloud Preferences Sync checkbox to sync preferences between Macs. Now when you launch the Airmail app for iOS, for example, you’ll find your signatures in sync.
