NHS Couch to 5K

In Partnership with the BBC

View

Bet you never thought Jo Whiley could be your running coach. Nevertheless, the former Radio 1 DJ is one of five motivational trainers available in running app NHS Couch to 5K.

Brought to the App Store by government agency Public Health England in partnership with the BBC, NHS Couch to 5K has been put together, as the name suggests, to get people off the sofa and into running.

Soon those walking intervals will get smaller and further apart as you get fitter.

Choose Jo Whiley, comedians Sarah Millican or Sanjeev Kohli, former Olympian Michael Johnson or the app’s trainer, Laura, to be your coach and then set an aim.

Are you preparing for a race, aiming to lose weight or improve a health condition, for example? Select your motivation, then start running.

Your chosen trainer will talk you through every minute of your sessions. You’ll start off by running in one minute bursts and will gradually build up over a nine-week period until you can run 5K without stopping.

Just think how good you’ll feel when you hit that 5K goal. Who knows, you might even decide to keep going.
