Most augmented reality (AR) apps wow by adding realistic elements to a real-world environment. Super You is a little different. This artistic app comes in heavy with the surrealism.
A real crowd-pleaser, Super You uses your camera to bestow weird and wonderful living AR “costumes” upon your friends. Advanced body-tracking technology synchronises with movement, so you can jump, dance, walk and wiggle, and the costume follows in real-time.
Developer Universal Everything suggests moving “gracefully”, but we found “expressive” movement was equally effective in the absence of grace.
The available costumes – which can be interchanged live via a quick swipe – will also match your clothing’s colours. Recorded video is neatly stowed in the Photos app and you can join the collaborative art project by sharing using the hashtag #SuperYouAR.
Although the Super You app offers a fun and frivolous experience, the tech behind it is really advanced and could inform major AR development, especially in the fashion industry. That’s why, to use it, you’ll need a more recent iPhone or iPad running iOS 13 and later.
