Description
Want to teach sustainability in the classroom? This is the app for you, built by the pupils at Troedyrhiw and Ynysowen Primary Schools in South Wales.
Do you want to teach sustainability in the classroom? Train2Sustain has been created by children for children to inspire and engage pupils in your class or at home to learn about the many aspects of sustainability.
The children of Troedyrhiw Primary School and Ynysowen Primary School have worked in collaboration during this project to create the ideal resource for the classroom. Ynysowen and Troedyrhiw are situated in the South Wales valleys in the shadow of Aberfan. Aberfan became known across the world as waste from the local coal mine engulfed the local school killing 116 children and 28 adults in 1966. It is important that this generation of children share with the world how we must change to live sustainable lives.
The children have created augmented reality models which will allow you to build a sustainable town in your classroom and at home. It is important that children understand about the different types of renewable energy. The children have created five explainer videos for you to watch using augmented reality on any vertical wall.
The children have written and recorded sustainability raps for you to listen to as they share important messages. You can view their augmented reality Art Gallery and choose which school rap to listen to.
Across Wales there are many sustainability projects and locations to visit. Use our interactive map to help you discover their locations. The pupils have created data cards which display interactive models of the sustainable buildings they have created. Inspire the children in your class to create their own models. Each building data card has a number of fields and data for you to use during data handling activities in the classroom.
You may want the children to collect their own data and information e.g. surveying the number of mini beasts in the school garden. We have created a 'Data Collection Tool' for you to use to collect the data. Save the final results into the photos app on your device.
The children have written blogs on a variety of sustainability subjects which include:
- How to Achieve an Eco-Friendly Home.
- Making Changes to Your Diet.
- Recycling and why it is important.
- Pollution in our Oceans.
- Global Warming & Climate Change.
- Reducing our Carbon Footprint.
- Climate Fun Facts
- Global Warning - Tell us more!
- Living a Sustainable life - Top Tips.
- Reuse and Repurpose
- Bees Wonderful Bees
Want to know how the project came together? Read the Troedyrhiw and Ynysowen Blogs which document the whole project.
