Its sooo useful!

I can’t believe this app is free. I downloaded so many other apps that were wayy too expensive for what i can afford and finally finding an app where you can take so many notes about the books im reading is truly useful! Im now motivated to read more books thanks to “summarize”
Loved the app! Cheers to the developers ❤️

Oh, so close…

Once i downloaded this app, I was amazed! Everything I needed was free and worked great! The navigating is smooth and the menu is beautifully minimal.
HOWEVER…
Just a few hours after downloading the app, it got a huge update. At first it seemed fantastic, I was very happy with all the updates and thought they were great ideas that many more book tracking apps should add!
Then I realised they had added a new subscription, one that was a bit overpriced in my opinion. I thought that it was still alright, that I won’t have any trouble if I don’t pay. Then a bit later I realised that the now “free” version is a worse experience of what the app used to be.
Only 3 reading sessions per week? I understand having a collection and a tracking limit to the number of books, but limiting the sessions per week, and only allowing 3?! Same thing applies to the newly added “Cards” system, which is a wonderful one, IF one was allowed to make more than 3 per week without paying.
I’m very disappointed, I really thought this was gonna be my way of tracking for forever, but seeing the other, far cheaper, lifetime options out there, this one just isn’t worth it anymore.
3 stars, because if you are able to afford 16,99 a month along with all of your other subscriptions, this app will work wonders.

Developer Response ,

Hi there, thanks for your candid feedback and I'm glad you've been enjoying Bookshelf!

As a solo developer who's been working on making Bookshelf the best book tracking app for 4 years now, I'm constantly trying to find the balance between making my app as accessible to everyone as possible, and still being able to generate enough revenue to continue this as a business.

I truly believe that the free version is quite generous and should give you everything you need to track your library forever (I've removed the book limit forever), and the Gold version exists for those who want additional features and want to take their reading to the next level.

If you have some suggestions for how to make Bookshelf more accessible or fairly priced, please feel free to email me at alexandergerrese@gmail.com and I'd be happy to chat :)
