Imagine tennis, but shrunk down onto your phone and played at a million miles an hour by unicorns, zombies and robots.
That’s PKTBALL, a cracking arcade game that makes Wimbledon look stuffy and old fashioned in comparison.
It’s super intuitive – just move the character around by dragging your thumb about before letting go to unleash a shot.
As the ball pings back and forth between you and your opponent, some excellent little touches add real character to the game – the camera is always moving, the screen shakes when you nail a shot and haptic feedback adds further weight to your cross-court smashes.
Power-ups add further excitement. Slice the ball into one of the icons that appear on the court and you might win yourself a blaster, which fires the ball back across court with the force of a shotgun. Or perhaps you’ll activate a banana ball which makes the ball’s trajectory harder to predict.
Collect the coins that drop during matches and you’ll be able to unlock the aforementioned unicorn, zombie and robot characters, among others. And each is just as beautifully designed and animated as the last. Oh, and there’s online multiplayer to tackle, too.
PKTBALL compresses all the action on the tennis court down into short, sharp bursts – it’s a blast of instant arcade action that never fails to satisfy.
