Team Boundless

I joined the Ladder app and Team Boundless, Ben Greenfield’s program a couple of weeks back after being an early adopter to the Freeletics app in 2015. I personally enjoy using these app based programs for the variability in routines and they’ve gotten much better over the years, using simple AI to continue upping the challenge from week to week and the socially competitive aspects.
The app is generally pretty easy to navigate and gives you program choice from a number of trainers. I’d been following Ben via his podcasts and bought the Boundless book in early 2020 and was ready for a change in platforms after 6 good years on Freeletics so good timing combined with familiarity led to choosing his Team Boundless. His programs alternate intensity, training type, training focus over 7 days and he includes a number of health hacks along the way. I’m still working my way through a number of new exercises and finding the right level of intensity and weight (where required) to get the most effective workouts but so far, I’ve really enjoyed the variation day-to-day hitting mobility, conditioning, strength and always a great bit of mindfulness at the end of each exercise. Would be great to be able to record weight used and if you rate the workout before the outtakes with Ben or Rachel, the in-ear guide, the workout doesn’t save, but otherwise the experience so far has been great and keeping me motivated to complete all 7 days of activity and hacks.

Great workouts, annoying bugs if you’re not in the US

The apps and workouts are great. There’s multiple different trainers who each tailor their programmes to people of different abilities, experience and goals. Theres a new set of workouts every week so it never gets boring. There are also some fun challenges that earn you “badges” (e.g. workout streak, X amount of workouts done, etc). I’ve been on team move well for about a year now.

My main beef with the app is that it’s calibrated towards a US time zone (Chicago I believe) and I’m in Asia. That means new workouts drop on Monday instead of Sunday for me, and a lot of the challenges and streaks get messed up due to time zone differences.

I have contacted support about this a couple of times and received a “awww shucks” type of response, which is a bit annoying since they are usually very good about updating the app and introducing useful features based on user requests. It makes me feel like they don’t care about their non-US customers. I’m a bit baffled why time zone issues are a thing, I’ve never experienced this with any other app. Seems like an easy fix !
