Ratings and Reviews
Decent game
Decent game for casual people, but for anyone who is mildly familiar with the basics of formula 1 racing it is just barely acceptable. For one, there is no DRS in Formula 1, although this is forgivable for most of us F1 fans. What isn’t forgivable is the incompetent excuse of a “real life mechanic” EA calls drafting. Why does slipstreaming give the car in front a speed boost as well? Also, I can write a chapter and a verse about how terrible the AI is. Most of the time it brakes too late and will not hesitate to move in on you and end your race. I would suggest adding a “real life” mode which involves all of these things with a late breaking, harder to beat AI, or maybe even considering a new standalone F1 game with the aforementioned features. Otherwise, the graphics are great, gameplay is excellent (in non-motorsport modes) and I will be 100% willing to give it a 5 when things relating to formula 1 are fixed.
About this game’s gold-digger reputation
Enough is said by many others about the decent game physics and graphic quality. I’m here to say only one point: if all you care about is have a good time driving, this game is essentially free.
I can sink all day into driving whatever car the game “loan” me for free or whatever car I can afford to buy with in-game money I earn from driving. When one car is on repair queue I simply drive another. When the high end model repair takes all day, I move back to cheaper models and continue driving. There are so many modes in the game you don’t ever have to put down your phone just because some freemium mechanics limits you from continue playing unless you pay. Every car model has its own fun. If you purely enjoy the drive, this is a free and great game.
However, if you are the type that lust after a particular model or is the completionist who want to win every campaign, this game is the dollar blackhole, and very much a nightmare for you.
P.s. In terms of controller support, I have a great time using both the steelseries and motion control with a generic controller-shaped grip.
Can’t get update to newer version
Now that we all know EA has stopped update of RR3 for all users located in Hong Kong beyond version 7.6. Appreciated there might be certain business consideration on this, but could EA at least share the rationale behind?
However by doing this, has EA considered the unfair treatment to the group of users who have paid their respect to the developers by spending thousand of real dollars to enjoy playing the game?
How sure EA believe this is the best action available and if not please work on a better alternative as soon as possible as what a responsible developer should do.
