WHAT TO WATCH

Miss F1? Watch these 🏎

Ten teams, 20 drivers. And everyone agrees: in the spectacle that’s called Formula 1, your teammate is your first and worst enemy. While you’re waiting for the new season to start, go behind the scenes in the pit lane and inside the paddocks with these fantastic series and documentaries that cater to both petrolheads and casual fans.

F1: Drive to Survive

From Melbourne to Abu Dhabi, with the classic European stints in between, every F1 season follows pretty much the same route, but can lead to very different results. That’s especially true for the drivers in the middle of the pack fighting to be “the best of rest”. If they’re good enough, they survive. If they’re not good enough... ask Force India.

Formula 1: Drive to Survive is a deep dive into that midfield: it’s a brilliant representation of how team and driver stories are intertwined, and a dramatic documentation of how one second slower can cost a team tens of millions. There are two high-octane seasons to watch right now on Netflix.

Grand Prix Driver

Going behind the scenes at the McLaren F1 team as things unravel at their headquarters, this Amazon Original documentary brings you as close as you could hope to get to this highly secretive world. This prestigious team won a handful of world titles in the ’80s and ’90s, kept the fight going in the early 2000s, but hasn’t been on the highest step of the podium since 2012. This four-part documentary shows what it takes to compete at the highest level, and how easy it is to fall from grace.
