Description
VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player.
It can play all your movies, shows and music in most formats directly without conversion.
It allows file synchronization with Dropbox, GDrive, OneDrive, Box, iCloud Drive, iTunes, direct downloads and through Wi-Fi sharing as well as streaming from SMB, FTP, SFTP, NFS, UPnP/DLNA media servers and the web.
VLC offers support for advanced subtitles including full SSA compatibility, multi-track audio, playback speed control and rendering through Chromecast.
VLC is completely free and open source.

lightning to HDMI adapter no longer works
Unfortunately, the lightning to HDMI adapter no longer works after Apple’s first rapid security response update. It shows only “This video is playing on the tv.” but the video doesn’t appear. The adapter works with other apps, though. Thank you for solving the issue in advance.
Downgrade with every update
Since the last update the volume got lowered which is quite odd as I thought my headphones are broken but turned out that is not the case. I also miss the old folder based separation which was pretty useful if you had a lot of different music on your phone. It feels like with every update this app acts against their users. I don’t want to abandon it as it is still the best music and video app on mobile but if we keep getting updates like that I’ll need to look for something else. Devs please take seriously feedbacks like this.

In fact, audio might be a bit lower now, but audio quality is a lot better because it is no longer compressed. If your headphones support it, use them to increase the volume. Alternatively, use the equaliser and its pre-amp to increase it in VLC during playback.
does the thing
VLC could not share the screen to external screens for a week from my ipad, and I was seeking and trying out at least 5 alternatives to realise that VLC is simply the best. First, the bug was taken care of promptly, and the app just works, does everything that might be needed for video playback, for free, without ads and without any fanfare
