GEIST (Memorado): Brain & Mind
Get smart: games & meditation
Exercise and recovery are the backbone of any workout strategy. You can’t have one without the other – building strength requires breaks for your muscles to heal, while rest is a part of the muscle building process. Why should the brain be any different?
Geist is a brain trainer that takes a holistic approach to building the strength of your mind, playing the role of both gym and massage table. It’s an unusual approach, but one that makes perfect sense.
Geist has three main areas: Sleep, Play and Meditate. In Play, you’ll find a number of concentration, memory and logic games, with hundreds of levels each, that are designed to improve your mental acuity.
It’s a mixture of speed and focus: match the Mahjong tiles as quickly as you can or remember coloured tiles once they have been flipped over.
Over in the Meditate section, you will find the antidote to the quick fire quizzes that have got your mind working in overdrive. The app has a series of guided meditations for novices, as well as atmospheric soundscapes for more advanced practitioners who no longer want spoken guidance.
Finally, the Sleep programme is focused on making sure you maximise your rest – so that your brain can really recover from its daily toil. There are micro-podcasts about the importance of practising good sleep hygiene, too, as well as soothing sounds that will help you drift off.
