Unless you just won the lottery, managing your money isn’t usually fun. But, Fortune City manages to combine expense tracking with a city-building game to transform personal finance from dutiful task to enjoyable diversion.
Fortune City doesn’t link to your bank accounts. You manually enter each transaction – and when you do, a new building is constructed in your digital town. If you buy lunch in the real world, a food stand pops up in your digital city. Entering an entertainment purchase erects a toy store.
When you inevitably duplicate a building, you can consolidate the two to create a new business (two food stands merge into a family restaurant). Soon your city is packed with flourishing shops – each a representation of how you spend your money. (Yikes!)
Fortune City also includes serious granular tools for anyone who doesn’t take money management lightly. Tap the small circle icon to see comprehensive breakdowns of your finances. Consult the Categories tab for a pie chart indicating where you spend the most (shopping, housing, drinks, for example).
Ever wonder on which day you spend the most cash? The Statistics tab shows a chart of your daily spending over the course of a month. Dang, weekends are expensive.
