MADE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

Southeast Asia’s hidden gems

Southeast Asian creativity and diversity have long been on display in art and literature across the region, and they’re visible on the App Store as well.

All this week, we’re celebrating brilliant apps and games made in Southeast Asia. Join us daily to discover fantastic creations you didn’t know were crafted right here!

Have you ever realised there’s been a Michelin star restaurant near you for years but you’ve never gone? Or discovered that your partner’s massages are better than the ones you get from that pricey spa?

The App Store is a bit like that – full of hidden gems in the form of great apps that you likely never knew were made right here in Southeast Asia by talented local developers. Whether or not you’ve already discovered some of these nifty apps, now’s a great time to give them a go.

Gem #1: Budget wisely with MoneyLover

Made in Vietnam, this budgeting app allows you to oversee your financial habits by categorising your transactions, which means you can evaluate them and see where you need to stop spending and start saving.

Gem #2: Watch documentaries with iwonder

It can be hard to find documentaries and indie flicks at the cinema. Thanks to Singapore–made iwonder, you’ll be able to discover and watch interesting documentaries that you can’t see anywhere else.

Gem #3: Move more easily with Grab

Get to where you need to be or get things delivered to you with Grab (if you’re a tech lover, you might already know that the founders of this app come from Malaysia). Grab’s functions continue to grow and now include transportation and food and grocery deliveries – plus you can deposit cash in the app’s Wallet, so it’s easy to make payments directly through the app.

Gem #4: Type it your way with Pastel Keyboard

A regular keyboard is too plain to type cool words. Thanks to Thai–made Pastel Keyboard, you can play around with vivid skins and add nifty features to your iPhone or iPad keyboard. Whatever your style, you’ll find at least one skin that you’ll want to get to complement your wallpaper and case!
