Apex Legends Mobile is no port. Respawn Entertainment completely rebuilt its beloved squad-based battle royale for iPhone—and we couldn’t be more impressed.
Unparalleled mobility. Explosive action. Diverse playable legends, each with unique backstories and abilities. There’s no battle royale quite like this, and we’ve been marveling at its legions of small yet significant changes.
Take the new third-person camera—a real asset when you’re playing as a high-jumping character like Octane. Or visual cues, like approaching footsteps, that help you locate opponents when headphones aren’t an option.
We loved fooling adversaries as the versatile mobile-first hero Fade—who can teleport back to a spot where he stood a few seconds before—or hopping onto one of the game’s countless zip lines to cruise across the massive map. The compact interface keeps essential moves within reach.
While other battle royale games embrace dour browns and grays, Apex Legends Mobile is awash in color, from the sunny cliffs of Kings Canyon to Rhapsody’s pink and purple ultimate skill—all of which shine on the Super Retina XDR display on iPhone. No need to squint to spot enemies across the massive maps—the limitless draw distance keeps faraway foes crystal clear.

Our favorite moment
Winning a match using the game’s robust communication tools. Between voice, text, pings, and built-in callouts for items, strategizing together is a snap.
After squadding up, we chatted through tactics before jumping into the action. The handy ping feature let us mark enemy locations on the map as we snagged loot and kept each other safe. And when we reached the final circle, we timed Rhapsody’s speed-boosting, shield-refreshing Hype Anthem ability to augment the abilities of teammates Octane and Fade for the win.
Apex Legends was initially a spin-off from the acclaimed Titanfall series, which debuted on PC and Xbox One in 2014. According to lore, the Apex Games—the televised sport at the center of Apex Legends Mobile—were conceived by Titanfall 2 protagonist Kuben Blisk.
Suspect enemies are nearby? Crouch! Walking while crouching eliminates your footsteps’ audio and visual cues, letting you get the drop on foes and avoid detection. Bonus: It makes you harder to target too!
