Description

Albums is the Apple Music player that puts you in control of your music. Whether you just want to throw on album shuffle or spend hours meticulously sorting and filtering your collection, Albums cares about your music library as much as you do.

Free Features:

QUICK SELECTION
Just press “shuffle,” scroll through a grid of album art, or browse your library to select an album, and easily skip to the next one with album-focused controls.

WIDGETS & CARPLAY
See your music on your home screen with Now Playing, Collection, and Quick Action widgets. Take it on the road with CarPlay, and pin albums and collections for easy access.

ICLOUD SYNC
iCloud sync ensures you can pick up listening where you left off across all your devices.

ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL
Albums offers robust Siri interactions and supports Dynamic Type.

Premium Tools for Power Users*:

SUBSTANTIAL STATS
Get weekly, monthly, and yearly reports looking back at your listening, and dig into the data with customizable charts.

LAST.FM COMPATIBILITY
Scrobble your listening in real-time or manually. Import your last.fm history to fill in the full picture.

MORE CUSTOMIZATION
Explore built-in Insight Collections highlighting new and unlistened albums, old favorites you haven’t heard in a while, or even music from when you were in high school. Tag albums to create collections of your own. Customize the interface to match the color of your current album’s artwork with a simple two-finger tap.

RICHER DISCOVERY
See what’s next with a release feed of Artists and Record Labels in your library. Delve into production credits from MusicBrainz and Discogs, then browse collections of Record Labels, Producers, and more.

*Requires Albums Premium

Note:
Albums optionally integrates with Apple Health. If you choose to give Albums access to your Workout history, it can create "Workout Jams" Insight Collections, which match up your listening history to your exercise history. You can enable this functionality by going to the Insights tab and tapping the settings gear next to the "Workout Jams" heading. Permission for Albums to access this data can be controlled via the Apple Health app.

What’s New

Version 5.3.11

Features:
- Say you want to want to play an album somewhere between up next and the very end of your queue… there’s now a new “Play After” button to do just that!

Changes:
- The Release feed is no longer limited to 100 items. It now displays as far back as one month, split by days.
- Restored the ability to add an album to your library even if iCloud Library Sync isn’t enabled.

Fixes:
- Fixed an issue where the Album Info menu option wasn’t available on the Collections Tab with the “Play Album” tap action selected
- Fixed an issue where the “All Albums” source collection couldn’t be pinned in CarPlay.
- Fixed an issue where a deleted session might come back from the dead
- Fixed an issue where the “Play Partial Album” action replaced the queue without asking
- Fixed a crash when backgrounding the iPad app when on the now playing screen in slideover or horizontally-compressed Split View
- Fixed inconsistent playback of songs with no track number metadata

Too many bugs.

Full of bugs. Track not playing, different track lists appearing, app randomly closing. Contacted the developer and they didn’t respond.
Great potential but….

Developer Response ,

Hi there, sorry to hear you’re having a buggy experience. How did you contact me? I don’t see any emails in my inbox that I haven’t responded to, and nothing in junk. I’d love to investigate and troubleshoot the issues you’re having, so feel free to send an email to adam@albumstheapp.com.

Fills a need

Sometimes an app fits in with your thinking and your way of doing things. This is that app for me. I still like using Apple Music for music discovery and playlists etc, but it’s such a joy to open up this app and find Albums as I know and remember them. Artwork, credits and insights add to the pleasure of using this well designed app.

Junk

This app displays an error message every time I play anything. Since this is the purpose of the app it should be avoided.
Update: if my first experience with a new app is an error message then I can only assume the “developer” did little or no testing and I should not waste any more time on it. This is a shame as this app seems like a good idea.

Update many months later and each “update” still creates more problems than it resolves. What’s the point in paying for premium features if they don’t actually work?

Developer Response ,

Hello, sorry you’re seeing this error — could you reach out to albumstheapp@gmail.com so we can figure out what’s going on?

Update October 2020:

Hello again — I’m sorry to hear you’re still having so much trouble with the app, though I appreciate that you keep trying it out. Like last time I responded to your review, I’d like to invite you to reach out to albumstheapp@gmail.com so I can work with you to get logs and get the issue resolved. I take performance of the app very seriously and my aggregate crash logs show me that the app does not behave the way you describe for most users. A fact of software development is that different users will experience different bugs for all sorts of different reasons. If you send me an email we can work together to make the app better for you and anyone else having this issue.
