Elegant, with surprising depth for an apparently 'simple' game.
Canabalt has a beautiful aesthetic; razor- sharp pixel art shows the backdrop of a city under siege from unknown forces, and your smoothly- animated protagonist, as he/ she runs to escape. This is backed up by a wonderfully atmospheric soundtrack, and perfectly- measured effects, such as footsteps and the shattering of glass as the runner bursts through a window. Built around a one- button mechanic, your runner never stops on their endless sprint towards freedom, punctuated only by leaps between rooftops, billboards and cranes. You control these jumps- tap for a small hop, tap and hold to cover more distance. Bumping into obstacles can slow you down, causing you to fall short, but carefully planning these collisions will ensure that you don't end up going so fast that you overshoot. Strategically managing your speed in this way is key to ensuring that your 'score', marked by the number of metres that you have run, will continue to increase. Canabalt is the perfect timekiller- a game may only last a few seconds, but if you're good you might make it to minutes. Well worth the asking price, as this game's 'simplicity' belies the fact it may well end up taking a permanent spot on your home screen.
Soooo addictive!!
This game is insanely addictive, Canabalt, Angry Birds and Doodle Jump make up my main games set! Sure it costs more but it's the only one directly compatible with both iPad and iPhone so there. Easily worth the money, highly recommended!!!
