Ratings and Reviews
Videos good, navigation could be better
I do most of my anime viewing on Crunchyroll via this app, and have absolutely no issues with video quality. It’s good.
What I don’t like is that I can’t sort my list on the app, and that it takes a while when I open it to populate any content. My list and my history are both empty.
Not a pleasant experience - I’d prefer a holding screen that acknowledges the app is loading without frightening me all my content has been lost.
Comments section removal
The removal of the comments section across all apps was completely unnecessary and a massive overreaction to whatever harm Crunchyroll is alluding it cause. It’s pretty simple to ban accounts for inappropriate comments, just have it in the TOS and just don’t allow free users to comment at all. They chose the lazy and most convenient option and were most likely just looking for a reason to get rid of the comment section and this gave them the cover to do so.
I have been a paid subscriber for about 15 years and always went to the comment section after watching an episode to read what everyone else thought, it gave Crunchyroll a real sense of community, seeing the same people commenting on videos and giving extra context from the Manga/LN etc. I also used to read the comments for the first episode of a new anime to see if it interested me, rather than wasting my time watching something I might not like. The place feels dead sterile now and the user experience is now far worse for the loss of the comments
Good overall
It’s a good app with a fair amount of free content to watch, the only problem is the subtitles. When I press on in the setting before I watch something it goes to the language chosen but when your watching content the subtitles don’t show up and when you go to the setting while watching it says that subtitles/CC is off.
Also if your going to upload a tv series/anime/Korean drama and so on please upload the all content from the 1st season and onwards, because it quite frustrating I can’t enjoy the first couple of season of Fairy Tail and other contents on Crunchyroll, there seem to still be room for improvement!
