Cryptic and mysterious narrative focused gem
Fantastic game! Have poured over a dozen hours into this game - likely will spend dozens more with it.
Cultist Simulator is a purposefully vague and enigmatic game, not only in its subject matter of the occult but even how and what a player does to proceed, let alone “beat” the game. In this sense the mechanics and systems really complement the story and result in cohesive gameplay experience.
Without giving away the mystery, with each play through you’ll gleam more about each card or effects of cards, testing out new possible combinations and putting focus in different areas. Personally, the aspect of discovery here with how these work is a major factor in my enjoyment of the game. Once you decipher the some of Cultist Simulators decisively puzzling mechanics there is tremendous enjoyment in the managing and maintaining those systems with the aim towards understanding another bizarre and uncertain mechanic or system.
The varied and diverging narrative of each play-through is beautifully told. The focus of delivering this through text does not finish the engagement with the story - each piece of text on each card is descriptive, often bizarre or even at times baffling but always interesting and perhaps the next piece of the puzzle to be solved in progressing through the game.
5 Star game - well worth the price! Will go back to playing again now! Must reach enlightenment.

Help! I’ve been ensnared!
“I have no idea what I’m doing but somehow I’ve lost my job, gained a mysterious inheritance, stumbled upon some unusual books and founded my own cult. And now my cult has followers and I’m in too deep to tell them that I’m as lost as they are, so I guess we’re all going over the waterfall together on this one.” - my character, probably.
