What’s new in EpocCam 2024.1?
# Disable Screen Dimming
EpocCam automatically dims your device’s display to save power. If you’d prefer to keep an eye on your video preview at all times, you can now disable this behavior. Just tap the gear icon to enter preferences where you’ll find the new Screen Dimming setting.
Ratings and Reviews
Could do with one or two extra features
It’s a great free app if you just want a video feed without audio. You have to pay for the full app if you want audio. The only trouble with that is you can’t evaluate the audio in this free version.
Besides that, the full price app fairly cheap compared to buying a webcam. But on the flip-side, a dedicated webcam will also free up your phone — depends how much you want to use your iPhone as a webcam, this might be important to consider for youtubers and streamers.
It could do with adding the ability to flip the video feed vertically. You can flip it horizontally, so it’s not like that can’t do it.
One that works
I tried some free apps and this one was the easiest and quicker to install and connect. Although there is not a very good resolution in the free option, is good enough for a few videoconference calls
Two identical versions of app, neither accepts payment to access pro features
Frustrating experience trying to get this app to work as advertised, mostly because the pro version requires a paid upgrade but the app doesn’t have a payment or in-app payment feature (at least not on iPhone 11 and iOS 14). UPDATE Epoccam USB wired connection doesn’t work on M1 Mac running Big Sur or on IMac running Catalina. So unless you’re in the market for an unreliable and very out-of-sync audio-video experience (the result of going Wi-Fi only) you’ll have to look elsewhere.
