GoCar 4+

Please note that it is a review of the app not overall service which is good.
There is loads of bugs in the app, map leading to your car will be covered by the window asking you if you found the car while you are miles from it an there is no way of closing this window, so you will not see where the car is. App often will not open or close the car.
Texts will be one on top of each other so you will have to guess which option you are selecting.
Very disappointing because the service and the idea is great.

I only use it now for GoVan as it is an affordable alternative to hiring man+van. But in general there are sooo many bugs. The search function on the app is horrendous. You put in your parameters (car type, location, time) it looks as if nothing comes up but you need to zoom out on the map to find something. Unavailable locations are greyed out. That *appears to be available* is green… then you click in and select the car you want… then it tells you your times are not available and offers alternatives. This can go on and on around the map until you realise nothing in fact is available. Awful navigation and user experience and such a waste of time. Also app sometimes doesn’t work to open and shut the car. This could be so useful if they sorted these things out (been like this for years so no excuse). Also would be useful if you didn’t have to pick up and drop back to exact same location

GoCar is, in theory, a fantastic service for those wanting to reduce their carbon footprint but still have the convenience of a car. It is limited in that it only supports return journeys to the original pick up point, you can’t pick up in one GoCar spot and drop off in another, but great for running errands.

The app though, oh my god the app, is absolutely awful. Truly one of the worst designed pieces of customer orientated tech I’ve ever used. How an app for managing car bookings got approved when it makes it almost impossible to actually book the car is beyond me.

It crashes when you try to check availability, it crashes when you try to book or tells you no car is available when you just tried to book it and then crashes again. Constant problems with locking/unlocking the car, how to edit your journey or amending it can be fiddly and none of the menus are intuitive making it difficult to navigate.

It’s clear from the reviews that GoCar has a known of these problems for quite some time but have made no discernible improvements for the user. I will continue to use the app, as I have no choice, but will openly embrace a new provider for this service when one launches as they can’t be any worse than GoCar.
