Finally a privacy messenger that works
I’ve made the switched from WhatsApp to Signal, I’ve tried so many privacy messaging apps over the years but they all fall short in one way for other. I love the respect for privacy and the security features and settings in the Signal app reflect that stance. Video calling quality is better than WhatsApp due to peer to peer.
Is was easy switching my family over to Signal, also the support for iPhone, iPad and OSX is great.
Great app, one big problem
I love this app, all its privacy features, plus layout and in a way it’s simplicity. But I have one problem that is a huge letdown. After restoring my phone from iCloud I found out that all my messages including chat history is LOST. This is by design at the moment and not because I made a mistake. Signals FAQ says that at the moment recovering history after iPhone restore is not supported. This is incredibly inconvenient and makes me very anxious about using Signal in any meaningful way. I hope this can be rectified soon, but I don’t understand why is this is not a feature yet. It is the same phone, same account same phone number… I cannot see a reason why this could not be implemented. Signal says that all my messages are stored locally on the phone so it would make perfect sense to be able to recover it from my local/iCloud backup. Developers please fix this!
Overall decent but has a few bugs
Like the title says! Main bug being on the iOS version you can’t play a video while on a call (either before sending in the preview or within the chat - whether you’ve sent it or received it). Also not fond of the update with the move of the camera flip button. Placement is fine but don’t like how the icon is constantly present throughout the call - could possibly change it to be there when the screen is tapped and the other icons appear?
