Description
Irish Life EMPOWER is a simple app designed to help you plan for your retirement. It’s your pension
calculator on the go and lets you take control of your pension.
This app will also help you to stay up to date with the progress of your pension and offers lots of useful
information about your plan and investment details.
Key features
As a member of a Defined Contribution (DC) or Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVC) pension scheme,
Irish Life EMPOWER allows you to:
- See the current value of your pension fund
- See details of the pension funds you are currently invested in. It also includes additional information
about your pension funds such as the risk rating, fund description and performance
- See the list of available pension funds within your pension scheme
- See all payments made in the last 6 months broken down between employer, employee and AVCs (as
appropriate)
- Calculate the estimated value of your annual pension at retirement, if you are a DC pension scheme
member
- Calculate the estimated value of your pension fund at retirement, if you are an AVC pension scheme
member
- Check how this estimate compares to a recommended target of 33% of your salary for DC
pension schemes
- Check how this estimate compares to cash lump sum target of 1.5 times your salary for AVC pension
schemes
- Calculate the likely impact of any change in contributions, salary or retirement date on your annual
pension
- Contact information for Irish Life and the ability to send us a message via the app

Ok.....could be better
It’s supposed “Empower” you to manage your pension and keep an eye on its performance. How can you do that when there are no find prices available. Anyone with a passing interest in stocks knows that the way to make money to to buy low and sell high. How can one make an informed decision on the funds I want if there is no current fund price to guide me. Terrible for all its faults it’s predecessor had that at least.
Unacceptable & embarrassingly out of date
How can Irelands (possibly) largest provider of pension plans & retirement solutions neglect its app for so long and get away with it? The app still uses a fingerprint icon to illustrate FaceID log in. Face ID was introduced in September 2017, 7.5 years ago!
The only practical use for the app is to see your current plans balance. Seeing your % growth over time? Forget about it. See your plans fees that you’ve been paying as an Irish life customer? Forget about it. Initiate a pension transfer? Nope. See the holdings within the fund you’re invested in? Not a hope.. Everything is a terrible external redirect outside the app which is a terrible experience. What use is having an app if you’re just going to open a pop up to your website when I try to do anything?
Compare that to the offerings from leading providers in other developed EU countries, the UK, AU or in the US and it becomes apparent that Declan Bolger and his team couldn’t care less.
App not working
Normally works fine, the last week the app has stopped working, doesn’t let you login and stuck on the main screen
