Excellent app but like a market bazaar
Love the app and book everything here as it’s better than web to use. Ancillaries / add-ons are so many now it’s like being hollered at in a market which isn’t fun. Check-in button gets a bit lost over the itinerary and upselling, I get it but...tell us the prices of say car rental are better than alternative channels. Notice regular routes where we don’t book a hotel. Use all the data you have on us a little better, we said you can. Time to next level it again innovation wise instead of me-too.
I prefer aer Lingus. Ryan air has so much to learn
I have travelled with Ryan air and still do sometimes, but I prefer aer Lingus. Why? Because I have been caught trying to board a Ryan air plane at Birmingham airport holding a baby in one arm, I piece of hand baggage, a two year old boy, a nappy bag and a double buggy and then being left by Ryan air to navigate getting myself and all that down the 2 flights of wobbly exterior metal steps to the runway - and on a windy day to boot. No help from Ryan air staff to get into the seats with the kids and put luggage overhead. I’ve had flights cancelled or changed by a full day. I’ve paid a whopping 240 euro for a single London flight and still been auto-allocated the worst seat in the middle at the very back of the plane. I’ve had dirty food tables etc etc. never with aer Lingus who provide the best customer service around and in fact when traveling with a baby from Belfast to Amsterdam easy jet couldn’t do enough and put 2 passengers happily into exit seats to “give me room to work with”. I didn’t ask - it was an excellent service. Worst of all, I have seen those on crutches in a player cast and elderly gentlemen in wheelchairs left last to board, with no appropriate seat organized fir them. Ryan air has so much to learn. And yet I begrudgingly travel with them if the better airlines do not go to my destination or if work has bought the cheaper flight for me for business.
The Ryanair website and App were once a simple and easy to navigate experience. Now you have to actively avoid unwanted extras or promotions, can only check-in with limited time slots, all because Ryanair are trying to squeeze every cent out of their passengers. Ryanair made a big deal when they allowed extra baggage and were becoming a more ‘passenger friendly’ airline. It is now more expensive the carry luggage than ever before, and ‘Priority’ is the new normal. I have no issue with an airline maximising profits, after all if they are a major cause of climate damage, they may as well profit from it, but they have made it less friendly, more restrictive and ultimately a less pleasant experience to fly with them - from the ticket booking stage, not to mention the boarding an actual plane stage..! I like Ryanair (when things go according to plan) but the website and App are going backwards as user experiences and need to be simplified by removing the “are you really really really sure you don’t want...” steps from their booking and check-in procedures.
