Description
Tens of thousands of modern slavery victims are estimated to be in the UK today, and an estimated 40 million worldwide. Slavery is happening all around us - in car washes and nail bars, hotels and restaurants, factories and warehouses, massage parlours and private homes – in fact it can be anywhere. This unseen crime, hidden in our communities, is hard to tackle if we don’t know what to look for or what action to take.
The Unseen App provides a guide to understanding how women, men and children can be exploited and spotting the signs of modern slavery – the different indicators that may suggest you’ve come across a case of human trafficking and exploitation.
And it makes reporting concerns or suspicions to Unseen’s Modern Slavery Helpline easy – you can either fill in a report or call direct at the click of a button.
The Modern Slavery Helpline is the only UK-wide Helpline available to deal with any issue about modern slavery. It is open 24/7, free, confidential and independent, and can refer cases to the police where appropriate or discuss options with victims. The Helpline puts the victim at the heart; adult victims can decide what services or help they want or don’t want. Calls can be taken in over 70 languages.
In its first year of operation, reports to the Modern Slavery Helpline indicated nearly 5,000 potential victims of modern slavery. Not only does the Helpline support people to escape situations of abuse and exploitation, it builds up a picture of the nature and scale of slavery in the UK – essential in the fight against it.
The Unseen App makes reporting to the Helpline even quicker and easier, helping more people out of slavery. You don’t even need to give your personal details.
