Too much info to be asking of minors

I had to download Yoti in order to get access back to my Yubo account.
While I understand that it’s necessary to verify a person’s identity to protect Yubo users.. asking for someone’s personal identification documents seems like quite a lot to ask of a minor (or anyone for that matter) for something as trivial as a social media app. (If it were a state-run organisation, I would understand.. but for a social media app?)

It just seems like a little TOO much personal data to be collecting about the userbase.. especially considering that a large amount of the userbase (I would assume) are the minors coming to their app from apps such as Yubo.

Even if the Yoti staff claim to encrypt data, it is still too much to ask a person under the age of 18 to provide.
Data breaches can happen to any site or app regardless of security measures, if documentation like this were to be leaked, it could have a negative knock-on effect to the userbase.

If I were to recommend solutions to this issue, I would recommend implementing another measure for users under 18 to verify that does not require such sensitive documentation to be submitted.
Something like “Touch ID” or even a verified phone number or email address (even getting a parent’s email address would suffice)

Hi, Thanks for leaving us a review. Yubo uses Yoti to verify its users because we provide a secure and efficient method of ID verification. We request certified ID documents as this is most efficient way to verify identities remotely. Yubo also offer an alternative method of verification here: https://support.yubo.live/hc/en-us/articles/360013170319 ^CE

Why

Face scanner took forever to load, i was sat there for minutes and it didnt work. Then the 3 words? I have a speech impediment so it wouldn’t register any of my words. Tried to do the picture, again wouldnt load. All this to get onto one trivial friend meetup

Developer Response ,

Hi, thanks for reaching out. Sorry that you're facing this when trying to upload your scan into the app. The scan is a security measure to verify that you’re a real person. The face scan also creates your biometric key which protects your account. This is the digital map of your face created to make sure only you can access your details. If your scan continues to be rejected, please drop an email to help@yoti.com so that we can help you overcome this issue that you're facing. ^Z
