The best way to recycle or trade-in an Apple product − such as an iPhone, iPad, or a Mac − is through Apple GiveBack.

Hand in your device at your nearest Apple store to get it recycled for free, and you’ll also find out if you’re eligible to receive a credit toward your next purchase.

For every device you bring in or send for recycling up to and including April 30, Apple will make a donation to Conservation International to support their environmental efforts around the world.

Now let’s talk about robots for a second. If you’re based in the US, when you recycle certain models of iPhone, that process is handled by Daisy.

Daisy disassembles the iPhone so its materials can be recycled.

Daisy is a system of five robots that disassemble up to 200 devices per hour. These recycling robots recover rare-earth elements and Apple-specific aluminium alloys that traditional methods miss. So if it’s one of nine supported iPhone models, a robot might well be helping to do the job of being a responsible part of our ecosystem.

And although Daisy is hard at work in just the States for now, it will start disassembly in other countries soon.
