Riptide GP: Renegade

Rocket powered water racing!

View

Imagine a sci-fi Fast & Furious on water and you’re pretty close to picturing Riptide GP: Renegade.

You’ve been tricked into an illegal race and banned from the official hydrojet racing league. Two years later, you must rebuild your reputation on the circuit.

You steer by tilting your iPhone or iPad from side to side – it takes a little practice not to overdo it, but it soon becomes second nature as you learn how to fight with the constantly shifting water beneath you.

Hooning it down these futuristic waterways is a real thrill.

A single-player career has 31 stages, with a mix of racing and slalom events. There are 10 hydrojets to collect and more than 40 decals to unlock, as well as bike upgrades to buy. You’ll learn stunt moves, which you execute with swipe gestures. You can leap into a Quick Race, or try Challenge Mode, where you take on ghost recordings of your friends’ races.

It’s also possible to set up eight-player multiplayer games, or you can play split screen on a local device – although you will need compatible controllers.

Where this game really excels is in the lush environments and level design. You might be hurtling through a grimy industrial ruin being tossed around by a thunderstorm, while in the distance a spaceship hovers into view. And when the cops are hounding you, diving down one of the game’s hidden shortcuts is your only chance to lose them.

This is a thrilling, dynamic world – if you want a truly high fidelity experience with the gameplay to back up the incredible presentation, start here.
