Woebot is a chipper chat bot trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that aims to help you understand emotional difficulties such as anxiety and depression.
Developed by a team of clinical psychologists and psychiatry professors, Woebot has some real credentials behind it.
Its creators’ idea was to make aspects of CBT accessible to all. Even if you have no previous experience of these therapeutic methods, the app will coach you through thinking about your moods and behaviours and help you learn strategies to manage symptoms such as stress or poor sleep.
Woebot initially asks you to check in daily for two weeks. (Turn on notifications to get reminders.) While you’re chatting, Woebot will ask about your feelings and suggest potential responses to make sharing easier. If you would rather type out an answer, tap the tools button at the bottom left.
While you’re learning to note down things you feel good about or why you fall into negative thought patterns, Woebot will give explanations about how these methods may help and make more suggestions for making positive changes.
Woebot isn’t a replacement for therapy, but it is results oriented. Tap the graph symbol at the top of the screen to view your mood log – and to see how it changes as you talk to Woebot regularly.
