When you start learning a language, most of its words are a blissful mystery. But no matter whether you’re a novice or cautiously competent, you’ve probably heard of Rosetta Stone.

The award-winning language learning platform has been turning students into masters for 25 years, and now the app is making it even easier to learn on the go.

To get started, create an account and select your discipline from a menu of 24 languages including French, Italian, Korean and Vietnamese.

Choose lessons that are themed by topics.

At first, you’ll learn greetings and introductions – then it’s swiftly onto tenses and phrases to employ in an emergency.

Extended learning tutorials will complement these basic vocabulary lessons, and you can tap to hear a native speaker go through common phrases before repeating them back to the app.

Text, images and audio help you master new vocabulary.

There are also reading, speaking and listening tests for you to finesse your conversation. The trick, as you’ll learn, is revisiting and revisiting phrases and words until you’ve rewired your brain. To this end, you can download audio companions covering basic vocabulary and phrases and listen to them on the move.
