Many people have misunderstood the Bible as a collection of inspirational quotes or a divine instruction manual dropped from Heaven. Most of us gravitate toward sections we enjoy while avoiding parts that are confusing or even disturbing.

Our Bible resources help people experience the Bible in a way that is approachable, engaging, and transformative. We do this by showcasing the literary art of the Scriptures and tracing biblical themes from beginning to end. Rather than taking the stance of a specific tradition or denomination, we create materials to elevate the Bible for all people and draw our eyes to its unified message.

“The Bible is art?”

For all good intention with this “scholastic style” it does damage to the essential doctrine of biblical inerrancy. Sure… scholarly replies will abound about how that is kind of an ignorant uninformed statement. Here’s my comment - know firstly that you need to account for any potential damage to faith of people. Yes, I heard the Bart Ehrman story. By far most people don’t have that story. In terms of textual criticism, follow the rule of the apologist: don’t introduce people to objections, rather answer them when they come up. Don’t be telling people the Bible isn’t really what it seems … seriously. Get some “common folk” to do some “vetting / quality assurance” on your product - i.e. the academic style you bring (more evident in some material than in others). You can learn a lot from the “non academic types” out there actually. Don’t forget that.

I’m thankful for all the good done through The Bible Project. I object to this “paradigm” tangent, although I did actually appreciate the first episode of the podcast where this was introduced.

*Even if* the dissertation is quite water-tight the references of “clever tricks the scribes” is hardly helpful! Do they want/need this praise?? (no!), do we need to hear it? (no!) …should we be in wonder about their literary genius like they were from the “elite ethical hacker gang”? No! All glory is to God for what all of the authors (and “editors”) did - it was all delivered & the message integrity maintained by inspiration of the Holy Spirit … yes agreed there, but have you ever wondered why some people lose their faith *exactly when* they go to seminary? Because there are issues with the Bible? No. Because some of the *expert content* there is frankly unhelpful.

Listen to someone like Angus Buchan (from a farm in SA) instead for a reality check, rather than trying to wonder about who the authors were (and junk like that). I am upset, yes. Is God ok with this tangent of teaching? Does it help more than it harms? You pray about it & check that on your own. I’m bothered.

The Bible as art? No thanks, it deserves more respect. I get objective truth from there … unlike wikipedia.

Some introspection may be good - for all of us.
