• This week’s is not a huge update, but let that not convince you it’s unimportant. They can’t all be red-letter days (or updates), but each day we’re here is a good one. This update is a good one too.

By default, the iPhone app does not send Notifications
Per my original report on the fact the the iPhone app stopped pushing notifications, I received an answer from Slack’s support telling me that it simply had to be re-enabled.
Once done via “You” menu -> Notifications, things got back to normal.
I would recommend updating the release notes on that behavior’s change.

Still has issues
The good part is the amount of integrations, and shortcuts that make it easy to use.
Slack was the pioneer in making organizational communication efficient and retiring the ever cumbersome email.
When I started using it, 4 years ago, I could forgive slack for the glitches in the product, however 4 years later, some major things were not fixed and I’m afraid they never will be:
Notifications pop up but the message is not yet displayed in the channel for up to 20 seconds.
Delay in notifications, and notifications that are supposed to show up, never do.
Also it is impossible to sort the mobile side bar to display channels and DMs according to the most recent activity which means that it’s hard track back recent messages that you’ve already read.
Hope it’ll be fixed before WhatsApp come up with a flawless organizational communication app…
Missing basic functionality that the competitors have
1. When someone is sharing the screen, it doesn’t show it on iPad for some reason
2. Unable to share my screen on iPad, even though I can on Google Meet and Zoom.
3. The camera shows a weird vertical crop, while the other side actually sees me fine, horizontally.
4. Center Stage is not supported. (Even though Zoom and Meet already do).
In the days where we rely more on virtual communication, It would be nice is Slack could stop falling behind the alternatives when it comes to video calls and meetings. Especially on mobile devices and tablets.
