Blackout – Display Manager 4+

Brilliant… it just works!

It’s a shame this app doesn’t have more reviews. I own multiple old macs running High Sierra, connected to projectors or used as servers, rendering machines etc. All the modern screen dimming alternatives like Lunar etc. have abandoned support for macos 10.13. This little utility does precisely what it promises. Simple switches in the menu bar to turn the main display off while I happily use a 2nd connected projector / monitor.

When I found it, I bought it instantly and loved it. I’ll recommend Blackout to anyone who intends to prolong the life of their main displays, whether it’s for old macs or new. Great job by the developer keeping it clean and frill-free. Just one recommendation, it’d be great if you could add a ‘Startup at Login’ option in the preferences so we don’t have to manually add it to login items upon every install. Keep up the good work!
