Craft: Write docs, AI editing 4+

Over the past few years, I’ve used various applications for my productivity - the likes of Evernote and Apple notes (for quick capture).

Though these apps did get the job done and had a rich feature list, none can match the fluidity and ease of use that Craft offers. Not to mention, the design is absolutely stunning. I’m a visual person and I finally have something that I really enjoy using.

My use case : researching ideas for blogs and then curating, storing information - both personal and work related for the long term, quick capture for my thoughts and ideas, writing book & course notes, and creating various lists for home management stuffs.

Of course there are a few things missing that I think if and when added, would save me the time and money to use another app for those purposes. Case in point : table/database and web clipping functionality.

However, I do get that Craft focuses a lot on the writing experience so I wouldn’t complain if these functions aren’t added.

It’s still packed with a ton of features without making it seem all cluttered. Kudos to the team!

While you can’t style docs like in Canva, and can’t format docs like in Word, it feels unique!

I feel it’s not designed to be that professional document app that draws people into MS Word or Google Docs, but is rather designed to be a sort of (in some sense glorified) knowledge hub that you can build alone or using collaboration. But of course there are many cool features like gradient text, cards (for the “fresh” take on docs), equations, etc.

In summary, I think that Craft was not designed for the app to write your professional papers or books in, but a place where you can keep, and update information, whether alone or with collaboration.
Whether that’s what you want is a different story, but this is how the app is in my opinion.

What I really miss (but probably doesn’t fit the app) is the sense of customization where you can put images on one side of the doc and completely color a part of the whole doc differently, and have more font choices that just 4 - which is what Canva is designed to be.

And why can’t you freely change text size? And why can’t you freely choose text color from a color picker? And why can’t these docs feel like Google Docs or MS Word docs? There are so many missing customization features - maybe they will be added someday.

I have tried every single Note Taking app on AppStore(literally, every single one of them). I have finally found an app that’s aesthetically beautiful and ergonomically sensible at the same time. That’s a big deal because I haven’t seen many apps (in any domain) checking both the boxes this easily. Craft Notes is my go to Notes app these days and it’s a pleasure to use! I hope they focus on what’s important and don’t change things up, trying out features that make no sense and make it a mess like Evernote. Craft is a note taking app and that’s what it should continue to be!
