Description

Digital Sanctuaries Lower Manhattan NYC is an urban soundwalk that invites the public to alight on a virtual pilgrimage through the New York cityscape, finding meditative spaces in unexpected places, marked by an ever-changing musical score. Digital Sanctuaries Lower Manhattan NYC is a soundwalk mobile app created by composer, percussionist and sound artist Susie Ibarra in collaboration with composer, percussionist, educator Roberto Rodriguez,  interaction designer Shankari Murali, and the team of computer scientist, Apple Distinguished Educator and TED Fellow Rommel Feria, commissioned by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council NYC. It is the first in a series of soundwalk apps that Susie Ibarra has created including Digital Sanctuaries Pittsburgh for the City of Asylum, Digital Sanctuaries Harvard and Music and Water Routes of Fez in collaboration with Architect and TED Fellow Aziza Chaouni.

As the audience engages with the music of each place, they are encouraged to discover the hidden qualities of the world without while taking time to contemplate the world within.
