Focos is a big step into the future of computational photography and light-field camera, bringing DSLR-like photography to your iPhone and iPad Pro, with beautiful bokeh effects usually achievable only with professional large aperture cameras. With the technology of computational photography, you can make unlimited changes to your photos, focus after the fact, change the aperture repeatedly, and add multiple lights in 3D space, exceeding the limits of any editing tools you’ve known before. The creative potential unleashed by Focos is endless.

The Verge,
"Focos has long been one of the most ambitious photo-editing apps on iOS, turning any photo into a 'portrait mode'-style image with fully adjustable depth of field, no matter what kind of camera you took it with."

- Take photos with shallow depth of field, without manually painting or making selections.
- The AI engine can calculate depth of field automatically for all photos.
- True 3D imaging.
- Simulate large apertures to create real bokeh effects normally only possible with DSLR cameras and expensive lenses.
- Import all existing photos and customize the bokeh effect.
- Re-focus portrait photos that have already been taken, with a simple tap.
- Choose from various simulated aperture diaphragms to generate different bokeh spot effects.
- Professional options to simulate lens characteristics, such as creamy, bilinear, swirly, and reflex effects, and more.
- Visualize the depth of areas within your portrait photos in a 3D view, and intuitively add depth filters.
- Add multiple lights in a 3D space, and adjust the color, brightness and so on for each light.
- Check the portrait picture in the real world with augmented reality technique.
- It is possible to patch the depth map precisely on iPad with Apple Pencil.
- Intuitive and easy to use, with built-in video tutorials.
- An essential tool for all iPhones and iPads.

Better than Halide for Depth control on non human subjects

I am using it on iPhone XR, only free features so far.

Depth control is much better than Halide app which i purchased and uninstalled now, works beautifully on non human subjects too which default camera app for Iphone XR (single lens) lacks.

Basically you first shoot the pic (without any depth simulation) and then adjust (basically edit) the aperture control (bokeh control) post shooting. This isn’t real aperture control like DSLR which blurs background due to optical property of lens, but actually a software simulation like all other apps do internally, this app just gives total control to user.

You can open any pic in library (shot from any app) and apply depth controls like defocusing background. You have full control on which part of focus and which to blur, also amount of blur.

I haven’t used the paid version features but they look interesting like shape of bokeh based on number of aperture blades (circular, pentagonal, etc). Also different lens effects, example: Helios lens effect (swirly bokeh), etc.

This is my impression after a day of use. I am yet to learn advanced features (only free).

Kudos to developer for beautiful app and keeping some useful features free.

Best app for all iphones

It works like charm on any photo you through at it with a human subject. The depth separation and the depth data it shows in 3d real time is something i have never come across. I have iphone 7 and xs. In both devices the bokeh effect is great and works on both front and rear camera.
Believe me even the free version is more than sufficient for editing a photo either taken through app or loaded from gallery

Love this app

This app has become one of my top favourites. I wish there was a way to save the settings or changes that one makes to the picture so that one can use same settings again. Right now one can copy the immediate settings but not save them for later use or if you want to save more than one setting.
Another issue is that one has to use it in portrait mode only and it does not tilt sideways for landscape mode.
I am also finding that with the latest update, many functions are not visible in iPad whereas they seem okay in my iPhone. Will appreciate some comments and remedy to this.
