What’s New

Version 1.16.0

In our first big update of 2020, we're releasing new groundwork for better RAWs, a safer shooting experience, and other little things that make your life better.

Sometimes things happen outside your control, like you're shooting at 5% battery and the phone shuts down, losing a photo. Even if these things rarely happen, we want to avoid the slightest chance of losing a photo. That's why we're introducing Rescue.

After you take a photo, we now create a backup copy before save it to your photo library. We only delete that backup once we detect that photo in your library.

If you think you've lost a photo, it's easy to check Rescue. Open the photo reviewer, tap the grid icon in the upper left, and then tap the life preserver icon in the upper right.

Based on our research into iOS 13 metering characteristics, we've updated Smart RAW to improve highlight recovery during the data.

Unedited RAWs look a bit dull to the untrained observer. That's why iOS normally post-processes RAWs before presenting them on screen, to add contrast and liveliness. However, this will get in the way of photographers, who are more interested in seeing those unedited pixels! In this update, we render RAWs "Flat", so you can quickly judge the exposure of your photo without having to jump into an editor.

After taking a photo, we now throttle our system to get your pictured into your camera roll as quickly as possible. This reduces the window where bad things can happen.

We've also significantly reduced peak memory usage in depth mode. This should prevent crashes, and just make us a better iPhone citizen.

Thank you for supporting Halide. If you have any issues or general feedback, you can reach out to us via support or just send a message to @halidecamera on Twitter.

Editors' Notes

Your iPhone has an excellent camera and the picture wizards at Lux Optics want to help photographers make the most of it. Hey presto: Halide Camera! It’s designed around two principles: the kind of granular settings you’d expect from a professional DSLR; and a slick, one-handed interface that complements today’s devices.

Crashes frequently

I have been using the app for a few months and I really love the app throughly as it helps me manually control any photo i take. My only issue is that the app crashes if I am taking depth picture of anything for the last few days. I take a pic and before I can preview it, the app closes and also the photo gets deleted. I have to then close the app completely and then open it back on for taking the same pic and sometimes when we do this live we lose the moment. Also sometimes the picture is more cartoonish or kinda like a paint and not the full detail is seen when zoomed when I am taking depth picture of a product which is in front of me with proper lighting.

Does not warn when the phone is rotated

I complained about this to your Twitter account but got no response. I like your app but I absolutely lose my mind every time I tilt the phone and internally it decided to change the orientation of the camera and the app does not reflect the changes on screen. Like any normal person, I keep auto rotate disabled and the app is unable to rotate the UI after that. This is the only camera app I have installed that stops rotating the UI if the auto rotate function on the phone is disabled. As far as rookie mistakes go, this is right up there. The result is I have no idea when the camera switches orientation and most of the images taken from this app are rotated weirdly because I couldn't correct myself and adjust the camera. And this has been for a long time now so just fix it already.
