A Frustrating Experience: Poor Design and Performance

I want to start by highlighting a stark contrast in public perception of government services between Western countries and India. In India, there’s a common assumption that anything provided by the government—be it healthcare, resources, or even digital services—is of poor quality. In contrast, people in the US and other Western countries tend to have more trust in their government’s ability to provide reliable services. It would be nice to say these are merely perceptions, but the unfortunate reality is that government initiatives and services in India often fall short of expectations due to inefficiency.

Take the NeVA app, for example. Usually, reviews focus on pointing out both the positive and negative aspects of a product, but with this app, it’s hard to find anything positive to say. The NeVA app is highly disappointing, with major issues such as unavailability of data, confusing navigation, continuous lagging, and outdated news. These flaws make one question the very purpose of launching this app. I’m even convinced that a college student could design a better app than this, which makes it all the more embarrassing knowing that this is a government initiative meant to enhance transparency, digitize parliamentary processes, and offer a user-friendly interface—all of which it utterly fails to deliver.

I urge the government to improve the quality of its services and make information more easily accessible to citizens.
