IMPORT ANYWHERE
Crouton supports importing recipes from almost everywhere! Pull recipes automatically out of websites and just save the bits you need. You can also scan recipes straight out of your recipe book using OCR

PLAN YOUR WEEK
With your favourite recipes on hand, Crouton makes it very easy to plan your meals for the week (or even long into the future). If you’re stuck for recipe ideas let Crouton automatically generate the meal plan from your organized dinner recipes.

STEP BY STEP MODE
Crouton offers a unique step by step mode. Focus on one recipe step at time as you cook, you can tap on ingredients within a step to get the quantity (saves you jumping back and forth between the steps and ingredients). With hands free mode you can move between steps without touching your device! Perfect for when you have messy hands.

TIMERS
Start timers with a tap. Crouton detects times within recipes and lets you start timers straight from the steps. A convenient heads up display keeps the times front of mind while you continue to use the app.

GROCERY LISTS
Create shopping lists directly from your recipes, easily copy just the ingredients you need to your list. Integrates with Reminders for convenient access. Your groceries have never been easier!

CLOUD SYNCING
All of your recipes are conveniently synced between all of your devices using iCloud.

RECIPE FEEDS
Save your favourite recipe RSS feeds into Crouton to see new recipes as they’re published from your favourite blogs.

AI IMPORTING
Quickly import recipes using AI. Import a recipe from a single photo with no manual entry required. Also supports plain text and images.

Great app

The app is really great, very nicely designed and offers a lot of options for free. One thing I would love and find useful is the ability to set timers within the “play” section

Purchase AND subscription, not ok

On top of the 18€ one time purchase to remove recipes limit and a couple of other limitations (Crouton+), the developer now asks for 12€/year for: discover new recipes, share recipes, scan to import recipes. (Crouton Discover)
I honestly find this decision unacceptable, just because this is a solo developer app doesn’t mean customers have to be “punished” for it, especially when there are so many good alternatives.
Now, if in the subscription the Crouton+ was included I’d be ok with it, but having to pay a subscription for something that is present in most of similar apps AND still not having any privileges from the Crouton+ is just ridiculous.
I’ll personally switch app and stop supporting this developer, which is sad because the app is good but like I said there are many excellent alternatives that are cheaper.

Hey there, I understand your frustration with this change as on the surface it can feel like I’m just asking for more money. I promise that isn’t the case and I hope you’ll give me the the chance to explain.

The features included in the new Discover subscription have recurring costs associated with them that I need to cover. With the one off purchase for Crouton+ I’m not in a position to support these costs long term, and so it either needs to be a subscription or not offered at all. My view is that discover is a small additional set of features that are totally optional, and Crouton can be used perfectly well without them, so if they new features aren’t worth the cost in your view, it’s easy in settings to hide them completely and carry on as normal.

My plan going forward is that almost all new features will be for everyone.

I appreciate that subscriptions aren’t for everyone, and I’m sorry that it’s making you consider switching apps. I hope you’ll give me a chance to prove with further updates that I’m committed to all users.

I’m hoping to release an update soon that will at least let Crouton+ users trial the new features.

No no no, mal gestione di iCloud

Dopo aver cambiato l’ iPhone, con la sincronizzazione dell’app su iCloud, mi ritrovo nel iPhone solo due delle 20 ricette che avevo inserito, assurdo per un servizio che oltretutto è a pagamento
Se si fa un’app del genere bisogna anche poter dare la sicurezza di mantenere propri i dati.
Non fateci affidamento, tenete sempre una copia delle vostre ricette su un altro file.
