Grim Tides tries to blend tabletop RPG vibes, familiar dungeon crawling and roguelike mechanics, and a classic turn-based combat system into an accessible and entertaining package. Because of its attention to written storytelling, detailed worldbuilding and abundance of lore, Grim Tides can be similar to a solo Dungeons and Dragons campaign, or even a choose your own adventure book.

Grim Tides is a single player game and can be played offline. It has no lootboxes, energy bars, overpriced cosmetics, content locked behind endless microtransactions, or other modern monetization schemes. Just a one-time purchase for the full game, and completely optional goodies for those who wish to support the game and its development.

One of the best in its genre

I’ve played also the other game (Grim Quest) and I admit both of them are very well conceived. Some of the game mechanics are involving and a lot of details are very well studied and refined, especially for Grim Tides where the graphics and drawings add pleasant aids to better dive into the lore/story. I am not in favour of paying games on the store, but for this I’ve made an exception after finishing the free part of it. It is apparent that behind this game there is a very good job and passion for the genre. One small suggestion: I am quite fast now in the dungeon crawling and sometimes, when I discover the exit tile, the button “Unlock and leave” that pops up for returning to the city appears exactly in the position of the next tile, causing the unintended exit from the dungeon.
However, I am a lover of this type of games (I was a fan of the Lonely Wolf saga in the late 80s) and I have to say that in terms of mobile gaming this is a very rare pearl. Very well done!
