What is Prem Seva?
Prem Seva is an online web and app-based information and educational resource to empower and support families and paid carers to provide compassionate and practical care for senior people at home. The content of the app has been carefully curated and drawn from reputable sources.

Why Prem Seva?
Prem Seva was set up in the memory of Doctor Mrs Prem Suri, who sadly passed away in November 2020 in the middle of the Covid pandemic. She was a dedicated doctor who was passionate about the nursing aspects of patient care. One of the most distressing aspects of her illness was developing bed sores and this is one of the main reasons that prompted us to start this project.

Aim of Prem Seva
The aim of Prem Seva is to help and support families look after senior people in their own homes.

Background
India, like many countries, has a demographic of an ageing population. World class medical and technological healthcare is available in India. It is equally important that care at home, provided by families and carers, is well-informed and of high quality. Paid carers are often employed by agencies or bureaus and there is a need for skills training for these carers. Families often find themselves in a caring role and feel helpless. Caring can be a challenging and lonely task made more difficult when families are unsure how to help or fear that they may not be doing things correctly.

What is the need?
82% of senior people live in their own homes.
Health care complexity is increasing.
Family and paid caregivers need skills and support.
Care, compassion and communication skills are needed.
Medical models do not work here.
Family empowerment is the key.

Why the need?
Children moving away from home within and outside the country.
Decline in joint families and rise in nuclear families.
Families employ paid carers to support home care.
Paid carers are often lacking in skills to provide safe and compassionate care.
Care expertise has not kept pace with medical expertise.

What Prem Seva is NOT
A medical information app.
A home care service provider.
A caregiver certification organisation.
A non-healthcare advice resource.
A commercial enterprise for profit.
